Counselling - for individuals and couples

Overview

I know there are times in your life that can be difficult.  Things might feel really tough just now and maybe even overwhelming.  Taking the first step to ask for help can feel daunting and I hope that once you’ve finished reading, you’ll let me help you with the next steps.

As a qualified counsellor, I offer a place where you can be listened to, a place where you’ll have the space and time to be really heard and a place where you can share the things that you’re struggling with at the moment and allow yourself to be your true self.

Counselling can help you find ways to manage what’s going on for you right now and help you to feel better.  It gives you the chance to explore your feelings and understand yourself more.  I offer tailored therapy which is as individual as you are and my focus will always be on you and your needs and your wants in each session.

So what might you bring to counselling?  My current clients, adults of all ages, bring a range of things including anxiety and depression, relationship issues, past trauma, bereavement and low self-esteem/self-worth.  Many don’t feel happy within themselves and want to make changes or maybe find a way to cope with something they can’t change.

To use the jargon, I am what’s called a Humanistic Person-Centred Counsellor. What that actually means is that I am here to listen to you, I won’t judge anything you say, I will put myself in your shoes and I will reflect your feelings and thoughts in an open and honest way.

We can explore what’s happening for you in your life, the relationships you have with people around you and we might talk about past events that have been difficult.  Talking about these things should lead to increased self-awareness, which oftens leads to change and through this, I hope we can work together to help you find a way forward.

I like to be totally open and honest and integrate myself into my client work.  I am creative and I offer clients the opportunity to work with resources that help them express their feelings.  I am also a professional coach-mentor and this suits some clients as I sometimes gently integrate some of my coaching approaches into our sessions.

Building a successful therapeutic relationship between us is essential in creating the best environment for us to work together.  Consequently, I offer an initial 30 minute free, no obligation consultation so that we can talk about why you’ve come for counselling.  We can get to know each other and discuss how I might be able to help you and I hope that will be the start of building a trusted relationship where you feel free to talk openly and really be your true self.

Sometimes there might be a better person to help you which it why it's important for us to talk first about your needs.  If this is the case then I am likely to refer you to another counsellor or other agency that can be best suited to getting you the help you want and deserve.
