I know there are times in life when things can feel difficult, overwhelming, or hard to make sense of. You may be aware that a particular experience or event is still affecting you, even though it’s in the past. Taking the first step to ask for help can feel daunting and I hope that once you’ve finished reading, you’ll feel supported to take the next step.
As an accredited psychotherapist, I offer EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) therapy for adults who are experiencing distress linked to non-complex or single-incident trauma. EMDR provides a structured, evidence-based way of working with distressing memories so they can be processed and no longer feel so emotionally charged.
EMDR can help you make sense of what you’re experiencing, reduce the intensity of difficult emotions, and allow your nervous system to settle. My work is always tailored to you, your pace, and your needs, with safety and collaboration at the heart of the process.

So what might you bring to sessions?
Clients come to EMDR with a range of difficulties connected to specific past experiences that continue to impact them in the present. This might include anxiety, low mood, heightened stress responses, intrusive memories, or a sense of being “stuck”.

​​How I work?
My EMDR work is based on Francine Shapiro’s Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model, which understands trauma as memories that have not been fully processed and are therefore stored in a distressing way. When triggered, these memories can cause strong emotional, physical or cognitive reactions.

EMDR helps the brain resume its natural healing process using bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements or tapping), while gently focusing on aspects of the memory. You remain in control at all times and we work within your window of tolerance to ensure the process feels contained and safe.

Although EMDR is a structured therapy, the relationship remains central. I work in a calm, collaborative, and supportive way, ensuring you feel heard, respected and fully involved throughout.

The process
​
Together we’ll begin by understanding your history, your current difficulties and identifying appropriate target memories. We’ll also focus on preparation and resourcing, so you feel grounded and supported before moving into memory processing.
​
As memories are reprocessed, clients often notice a reduction in emotional intensity, fewer triggers, and a shift in how they see themselves or the event. Many report feeling more settled, more confident, and better able to move forward.

EMDR has 8 phases - each phase (from history taking and preparation to desensitization, installation, body scan, closure, and reevaluation) is meticulously designed to activate the natural healing process and promote psychological stability and resilience.
